Last summer, it was revealed that 20th Century Studios was\u00a0developing a new \u201cDiary Of A Wimpy Kid\u201d animated film based on the 12th book in the series, \u201cThe Getaway\u2019 book.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Getaway\u201d tells the story of Greg Heffley and his family, who are getting out of town. With the cold weather setting in and the stress of the Christmas holiday approaching, the Heffleys decide to escape to a tropical island resort for some much-needed rest and relaxation. A few days in paradise should do wonders for Greg and his frazzled family. But the Heffleys soon discover that paradise isn\u2019t everything it\u2019s cracked up to be. Sun-poisoning, stomach troubles and venomous creatures all threaten to ruin the family\u2019s vacation.<\/p>\n
During a recent episode of the Today Show, Jeff Kinney, who is the creator of the book series and also an executive producer on the films, appeared in an interview to promote his books.\u00a0 It was revealed that the new animated film will be coming to Disney+ later this year in time for the holidays.<\/p>\n
No other details on the upcoming animated film have been revealed yet, but expect more details to be revealed later this year, likely at the D23: Ultimate Fan Event in August.\u00a0<\/p>\n
While we wait for the new film, the previous four animated \u201cDiary Of A Wimpy Kid\u201d movies, along with the live-action versions of these books, are available to stream on Disney+.<\/p>\n
