Max Verstappen has responded to the tragic passing of Juha Miettinen at the Nordschleife, where the four-time F1 drivers’ champion is competing this weekend.<\/p>\n
The German driver was killed in a seven-car crash that occurred 25 minutes into the four-hour 24 Hours of Nurburgring Qualifiers Race 1.<\/p>\n
The 66-year-old’s death was confirmed in a press conference at 20:00 local time, just over two hours after the incident took place.<\/p>\n
The FIA, BMW, for whom Miettinen raced, and Mercedes led the messages of condolence, and Verstappen shared his own thoughts soon after.<\/p>\n
The Red Bull driver posted to his Instagram story, writing: “Shocked by what happened today…<\/p>\n
“Motorsport is something we all love, but in times like this, it is a reminder of how dangerous it can be.<\/p>\n
“Sending my heartfelt condolences to Juha’s family and loved ones.”<\/p>\n
