the Mets\u2019 longest-tenured player<\/a>, is coming off three poor starts. After Peterson\u2019s last start, however, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza noted that his stuff looked better. Still, the results were not good. Against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday, Peterson allowed four runs, five hits and four walks in five innings. His ERA stands at 6.41.<\/p>\nAfter his All-Star appearance last season, things fell apart for Peterson. In 12 starts during the second half, he posted a 6.34 ERA. Peterson, 30, is set to be a free agent after the season.<\/p>\n
The hope is for Myers to make it through the batting order one time. He last pitched Wednesday, throwing two innings and 30 pitches. Myers holds plenty of experience as a starting pitcher, but he is not fully stretched out. He hasn\u2019t pitched more than three innings in a game this season.<\/p>\n
The secondary piece in the Mets\u2019 trade with the Milwaukee Brewers for Freddy Peralta, Myers has pitched well as a long man out of the bullpen this year. His 3.46 ERA doesn\u2019t tell the whole story, as he has permitted just 10 base runners in 13 innings and at one point retired 31 of 33 hitters.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat makes him really unique and special is his high velo and high slot, so everything looks the same out of hand,\u201d pitching coach Justin Willard said last week. \u201cWe\u2019re just getting to some slightly different shapes than he had previously: a little more cut on the cutter, a little more drop on the splitter, and then morphing the previous slider and curveball into the same pitch where it\u2019s harder and has more depth.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really platoon-neutral. Whether it\u2019s a one-inning stint or for five or six innings, it should be able to play.\u201d<\/p>\n
Myers owns a career 3.17 ERA in 31 starts in the majors. He was a regular starter for Milwaukee in 2024, when he posted a 3.00 ERA over 138 innings and held the Mets scoreless through five innings in a winner-take-all playoff game that October.<\/p>\n
The Mets have not yet made a decision on Kodai Senga, who has fared worse than Peterson lately. Over Senga\u2019s last two starts, he has allowed 14 runs in just 5 2\/3 innings.<\/p>\n
