Beta Film has sold historical epic \u201cRise of the Raven\u201d to multiple territories ahead of its North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. Following the festival premiere, CBC will bring the 10-part series to Canadian audiences on their streaming channel CBC GEM from Sept. 19. Beta recently sold the miniseries to Italy\u2019s public broadcaster RAI, which will air it next year.<\/p>\n
Croatia\u2019s HRT, Telekom Deutschland in Germany, Slovakia\u2019s STVR, Blue TV in Switzerland, and YES in Israel have already broadcast the drama this year, with Czech TV being the most recent to join this group. The show broke ratings records in Hungary on TV2 and it was a hit with young audiences in particular when it aired on Austria\u2019s ORF and its streaming service.<\/p>\n

\u201cRise of the Raven\u201d tells the story of fearless army commander J\u00e1nos Hunyadi (Gell\u00e9rt L. K\u00e1d\u00e1r), who devotes his life to defending Europe against an Ottoman invasion. His strongest allies are the women in his life: Erzs\u00e9bet (Vivien Rujder), the wife who fights alongside him, and Mara (Franciska T\u00f6r\u0151csik), his first love, who breaks his heart by becoming lead concubine in Sultan Murad\u2019s (Murathan Muslu) court. When the Ottoman Empire mobilizes an army with the objective of conquering the Vatican and Europe, Hunyadi leads his small but mighty army to the battlefield.<\/p>\n
\u201cRise of the Raven\u201d is produced by Robert Lantos and his Serendipity Point Films, as well as Twin Media, HG Media, MR Film and Beta Film, co-produced by TV2 and ORF, supported by the National Film Institute of Hungary.<\/p>\n
Showrunner is Bal\u00e1zs Lengyel (HBO\u2019s \u201cGolden Life\u201d), who also directs the final episode. The series is written by Lengyel, George Mihalka, Bal\u00e1zs Lovas, Zs\u00f3fia Ruttkay, Attila Veres and B\u00e1n M\u00f3r, on whose best-selling series of novels \u201cRise of the Raven\u201d is based on.<\/p>\n
Producers are Tibor Krsko, Cecilia Hazai, Kinga Hazai, Ari Lantos, Oliver Auspitz and Andreas Kamm of MR Film, as well as Koby Gal-Raday. Directors are Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning Robert Dornhelm (\u201cMaria Theresa,\u201d \u201cWar and Peace\u201d) alongside Hungarian directors Orsi Nagypal (\u201cThe Deal,\u201d the CW\u2019s \u201cThe Outpost\u201d) and Attila Szasz (\u201cTall Tales,\u201d \u201cEternal Winter\u201d).<\/p>\n
