VIDEO: A familiar face defeats Vancouver FC<\/p>\n

A familiar face scored the winning goal against Vancouver FC in Toronto Sunday, as Gabriel Bitar got past Eagle netminder Callum Irving to win the match for Inter Toronto, 1-0.<\/p>\n

It was the third 1-0 loss for VFC, which has yet to win this season.<\/p>\n

Bitar, who had been traded by VFC to Toronto in 2025, scored just five-and-a-half minutes into a game that pitted two teams in search of their first win of the season.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Bitar, who was with VFC from the beginning, signed with the Langley-based team in 2023.<\/p>\n

During his two-season tenure with Vancouver, he became the club\u2019s all-time leader in combined goals and assists.<\/p>\n

He was traded<\/a> to what then known as York United in a 2025 deal that gave VFC York United\u2019s first pick in the 2026 CPL-U SPORTS draft.<\/p>\n

The eastern team team was rebranded for the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

Both Toronto and Vancouver had suffered late-in-the game losses going into Sunday\u2019s match.<\/p>\n

Vancouver fell to a 90th-minute Max Filion winner for Forge that saw them drop a 1-0 result for the second straight weekend. <\/p>\n

Inter Toronto led twice against the Halifax Wanderers in their home opener before conceding an 86th-minute equalizer that cost them a winning start to the season. <\/p>\n

It was the Eagle\u2019s first road trip of the season, which also marked a return to York Lions Stadium for Vancouver FC head coach Martin Nash.<\/p>\n

Nash was on the touchline for Inter Toronto for three-and-a-half seasons between 2021 and 2024. Sunday marked the first time he returned to his former stomping grounds with a different club.<\/p>\n

Nash and Vancouver FC did face Inter Toronto in Langley at the end of last season, winning 2-1 on September 21 on a goal from another Inter Toronto alumnus, full-back Paris Gee. <\/p>\n

The Eagles, however, have not won in Toronto since they picked up their first-ever victory as a club at York Lions Stadium in a 2-1 win on April 22, 2023. <\/p>\n

Next up for VFC, another road game, a Sunday April 26 match against Ottawa.<\/p>\n
