One of the big actions was the creation of a Rental Development Relief Program.<\/p>\n<p>As I reported for Storeys last week, nine projects \u2014 including two by PCI Developments and two by Anthem Properties \u2014 have applied and are set to proceed under the program, which adjusts the affordability requirements for below-market rental units. The application process remains open. Full details about the <a href=\"https:\/\/storeys.com\/surrey-translink-newton-centre-plan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Newton Centre Master Development Plan<\/a> in Storeys. <\/p>\n<p>Guess who\u2019s back? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/british-columbia\/doug-mccallum-2026-mayoral-campaign-9.7161894\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Doug McCallum<\/a>, who announced he\u2019s running for Mayor of Surrey once more, for what would be his third stint if he wins. <\/p>\n<p>The Liberals won three byelections that were held last week, giving Prime Minister Mark Carney a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/time-to-get-serious-carney-byelection-sweep-9.7163409\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">majority government<\/a>. Carney also announced the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pm.gc.ca\/en\/news\/news-releases\/2026\/04\/17\/prime-minister-carney-announces-first-ever-canada-investment-summit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canada Investment Summit<\/a> to be held in Toronto in September, where he hopes to secure $1 trillion in investment in Canada.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The story behind one of my stories.
