If you decide to break the rules, it can result in a fine ranging from $50 to $300.<\/p>\n<p>Washing your car at home comes with rules<br \/>\n<img alt=\"\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2263479\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/MixCollage-20-Apr-2026-12-03-PM-2351.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2263479\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">New Africa\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re planning to wash your car at home, there are a few rules you\u2019ll want to know before you break out the hose.<\/p>\n<p>Under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calgary.ca\/bylaws\/car-washing.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Stormwater Bylaw 37M2005,<\/a> only water is allowed for cleaning vehicles, and your car can\u2019t be \u201coverly dirty\u201d to begin with. The rules are meant to keep soap, even biodegradable kinds, out of the storm sewer system.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t follow them, fines can reach up to $3,000<\/p>\n<p>Painting wooden ladders isn\u2019t allowed in Alberta<br \/>\n<img alt=\"\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2263482\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/MixCollage-20-Apr-2026-12-06-PM-5742.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2263482\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Klochkov SCS\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>Not only does this rule affect Calgary, but it also applies across the entire province. Under part eight of Alberta\u2019s Occupational <a href=\"https:\/\/search-ohs-laws.alberta.ca\/legislation\/occupational-health-and-safety-code\/part-8-entrances-walkways-stairways-and-ladders\/#3035\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Health and Safety Code<\/a>, \u201ca person must not paint a wooden ladder.\u201d However, wooden ladders may be preserved with a transparent protective coating. This rule is in place so that any cracks, wear, or damage remain visible.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Your cat isn\u2019t allowed to be \u201cat large\u201d<br \/>\n<img alt=\"warm weather alberta\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2233576\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Shutterstock_2608925605.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2233576\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Anna Zelena\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>According to the City of Calgary\u2019s Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw, Cats aren\u2019t meant to roam freely off their owner\u2019s property. So if your cat is out living its best unsupervised life, it technically counts as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calgary.ca\/bylaws\/cats.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u201crunning at large,\u201d<\/a> and owners can face a $150 fine.<\/p>\n<p>No rodent companions are allowed<br \/>\n<img alt=\"\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2263489\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/MixCollage-20-Apr-2026-12-12-PM-2027.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2263489\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marcus_The_Photographer\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>Alberta is widely <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/vancouver\/alberta-rat-free\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">known for being rat-free<\/a>, and pets are no exception. Under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alberta.ca\/albertas-rat-control-program#:~:text=It%20is%20illegal%20to%20own%20pet%20rats%20in%20Alberta.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">provincial regulations<\/a>, pet rats are prohibited. You\u2019re not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calgary.ca\/bylaws\/snow-shovelling.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">allowed to shovel snow<\/a> from your private property, like your driveway, onto public streets.<\/p>\n<p>However, snow from public spaces, like sidewalks, can be moved onto other public areas, like the roads.<\/p>\n<p>Did any of these strange bylaws surprise you?
