POUGHKEEPSIE\u00a0\u2014\u00a0 One man died and another person was hospitalized in a shooting during a soccer game over the weekend at Eastman Park in Poughkeepsie, police said.<\/p>\n
Shots were initially heard at 6:33 p.m. Sunday in the area of Stitzel Field on Lincoln Avenue. Several officers were dispatched to the scene, where a crowd had gathered for a local adult soccer game.<\/p>\n
Police were told multiple people had exchanged gunfire across the street from the soccer field, Poughkeepsie police said in a release. Those people have not been located.<\/p>\n
After police arrived on the scene, they learned that a 46-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest was being driven to the hospital, where he later died. He was identified as Carl Chambers of Marlboro. Police said they have interviewed the occupants of the vehicle that drove Chambers.<\/p>\n
A subsequent phone call notified public safety dispatchers that another victim had been transported to a local hospital. That victim was treated and deemed stable by hospital staff.<\/p>\n
Police said their preliminary investigation indicated that three different weapons were fired at the scene, including a high-powered rifle. \u201cAssociated subjects\u201d were interviewed, police said.<\/p>\n
The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the city of Poughkeepsie Police Department at 845- 451-7577. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through the department\u2019s confidential tip line at the same number.<\/p>\n
