introduced last fall<\/a>, the express route ran from Winston Churchill Station in Mississauga\u2019s west end to Renforth Station at the city\u2019s border with Toronto in the east, via Eglinton Avenue and the Mississauga Transitway.<\/p>\nThe extended service to Kipling, a \u201ckey transit hub in Toronto,\u201d comes in response to \u201crider needs,\u201d MiWay said in releasing details of the expanded route on Monday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese adjustments are based on ridership data and customer feedback that highlight areas for improvement,\u201d city transit officials said. \u201cThis ongoing review enables MiWay to make changes to improve connections and reduce crowding on busy routes. These changes also help make trips faster, more frequent and reliable for travel within and beyond Mississauga.\u201d<\/p>\n
The municipal transit agency added MiWay\u2019s network has grown to now include 13 major corridor routes that run buses at 15 minutes frequency or better.<\/p>\n
For MiWay passengers who\u2019ll be taking trips back to Mississauga on Route 135, they can find the bus at Platform 5 on the north side of the Kipling Bus Terminal.<\/p>\n
Transit officials added many MiWay routes that serve the Kipling station will also use new platform locations.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new platform layout supports the extended Route 135 Eglinton Express and helps reduce crowding,\u201d MiWay said.<\/p>\n
The extension of Route 135 is one of a number of service changes set to take effect on April 27, MiWay noted.<\/p>\n
Improved service is also coming, as of next Monday, to the following MiWay routes:<\/p>\n
On weekdays: 3 Bloor, 5 Dixie, 28 Confederation, 70 Keaton, 71 Sheridan and 108 Financial Express.
\nOn Sundays: 101 Dundas Express.
\nConnections to GO service at Erindale and Cooksville GO stations: 9 Rathburn and 28 Confederation.<\/p>\n
Also guided by customer feedback, MiWay officials said new bus stops are being added to Route 107 Malton Express along Humberwood Boulevard at Pinecone Drive in Toronto.<\/p>\n
The southbound stop will serve buses headed to City Centre Transit Terminal in Mississauga while the northbound bus stop will allow for passengers to be dropped off by buses heading towards Humber College Bus Terminal, the transit agency said.<\/p>\n
Other changes to take effect April 27:<\/p>\n
To improve the efficiency of Route 108 Financial Express, the afternoon southbound routing will follow a simpler route along Financial Drive and Creditview Road. This will match the morning northbound routing. Also, a new bus stop on Creditview Road at Derry Road will replace two existing bus stops along Creditview Road and Derry Road.
\nMiWay will adjust schedules on several other routes to \u201ckeep service reliable as traffic and ridership change across the city.\u201d More schedule adjustments may follow.
\nDue to lower customer demand during the summer academic term, routes 44 Mississauga Road, 110A University Express and 126 Burnhamthorpe Express will offer reduced service. Regular post-secondary service will resume on Sept. 8.<\/p>\n
