The United States is \u201chighly unlikely\u201d to extend the U.S.-Iran ceasefire that expires in the coming hours, U.S. President Donald Trump told Bloomberg News in a telephone interview<\/a> late on Monday.<\/p>\n

The truce announced on April 7 expires on \u201cWednesday evening Washington time,\u201d according to President Trump, a day later than many analysts had assumed \u2013 Tuesday\u2014 as the end of the two-week ceasefire.<\/p>\n

At any rate, President Trump said it was \u201chighly unlikely that I\u2019d extend it\u201d, referring to the ceasefire, if no deal is reached before then.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to be rushed into making a bad deal. We\u2019ve got all the time in the world,\u201d the President told Bloomberg News.<\/p>\n

The U.S. will keep the naval blockade outside the Strait of Hormuz, President Trump said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Iranians desperately want it opened. I\u2019m not opening it until a deal is signed,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

Following a brief opening for a few hours on Friday, the Strait of Hormuz was\u00a0closed again<\/a>\u00a0on Saturday after Iran linked the opening of the vital oil shipping lane to the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade outside the Strait of Hormuz.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s First Vice President, Mohammad-Reza Aref, early on Monday, warned<\/a> that security at the Strait of Hormuz comes at a cost. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe security of the Strait of Hormuz is not free. One cannot restrict Iran\u2019s oil exports while expecting free security for others,\u201d Aref wrote in a\u00a0post on X<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe choice is clear: either a free oil market for all, or the risk of significant costs for everyone,\u201d the senior Iranian official said.<\/p>\n

Early on Tuesday, as the two-week ceasefire is approaching its end, oil prices<\/a> were slightly lower in Asian trade as the market appeared cautiously optimistic that U.S.-Iran negotiations would resume on Tuesday or Wednesday, per President Trump\u2019s most recent comments on the status of potential talks.<\/p>\n

The oil price action in early morning trading today reflects hopes of progress in scheduled peace talks between the US and Iran, \u201cToo much hope, perhaps,\u201d ING’s commodities strategists Warren Patterson and Ewa Manthey said in a note<\/a> on Tuesday.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
