The new WNBA collective bargaining agreement will raise players\u2019 salaries for 2026 and beyond, but Sophie Cunningham isn\u2019t thrilled with the contract terms she recently agreed to with the Indiana Fever as a free agent.<\/p>\n
On the latest edition of her Show Me Something podcast<\/a>, Cunningham said that her new contract is \u201cfrustrating.\u201d\u00a0Cunningham signed a one-year, $665,000 deal to return to the Fever on April 12.<\/p>\n Co-host West Wilson said, \u201cThe Fever re-signed our good, close, personal friend Sophie Cunningham to a one-year contract.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt was close,\u201d Cunningham responded. \u201cIt was close.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cCan I be nosy right off the jump?\u201d Wilson asked. \u201cGiven the changes in structure and money and all that, over the last few weeks, was the contract better than you thought it would be?\u201d<\/p>\n Cunningham shook her head with disapproval.<\/p>\n Sophie Cunningham is not stoked about the contract she signed with the Indiana Fever in free agency<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not even gonna lie\u2026 it\u2019s a little, kind of, frustrating.\u201d<\/p>\n \ud83c\udfa5: @ShowMe_Pod<\/a> pic.twitter.com\/WlCvJ0fdQT<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Grant Young (@GrvntYoung) April 20, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s tough because I came off an injury,\u201d Cunningham said. \u201cI haven\u2019t been in front of any teams. Like, I had a lot going on this offseason. I was fully cleared\u2026 But if you don\u2019t get in front of these people, then it\u2019s like, \u2018Hey, are you actually good?’\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not going to lie to you,\u201d Cunningham continued. \u201cIt\u2019s a little, kind of frustrating.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m just in the point of my career where I just want to win,\u201d Cunningham elaborated. \u201cSo, I\u2019m not going to put my ego and everything in front of things. And I know it is a business, but I think I\u2019m just wired a little differently. I don\u2019t know. I just want to win. And so, it was a little weird. But, you know what? I think this is a great wake-up call to not get comfortable. I think it kind of lit a fire under my ass even more.\u201d<\/p>\n Cunningham, a six-year WNBA veteran, had her 2025 season cut short with a torn MCL that she suffered last August. She averaged 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game on a Fever team that included Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, and Aliyah Boston.<\/p>\n Earlier this month, it was announced that Cunningham is joining USA Sports as a special contributor<\/a> for the 2026 WNBA season.<\/p>\n \t
