The Indiana Fever<\/a> signed Sophie Cunningham<\/a> to a one-year contract this offseason. Cunningham is back with the Fever after establishing herself as the team\u2019s enforcer and Caitlin Clark<\/a>\u2019s protector.<\/p>\n

According to Spotrac<\/a>, Cunningham signed a contract worth $665,000. It is higher than the league minimum of $292,500 for players with seven to nine years of experience. It is also higher than the league average of around $583,800 to $600,000.<\/p>\n

Cunningham is coming off an injury suffered in August. She tore her right MCL, but she has fully recovered and is active at the Fever\u2019s training camp.<\/p>\n

On a recent episode of her Show Me Something <\/a>podcast with reality TV star West Wilson, Cunningham expressed her disappointment with the deal she got from the Fever. She was also not a huge fan of the entire free agency process, calling it a tough experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s tough, because I came off an injury, and I haven\u2019t been in front of any teams,\u201d Cunningham said, via New York Post<\/a>. \u201cI had a lot going on this offseason. I was fully cleared, they had all the doctors, they had the numbers and everything. But if you don\u2019t get in front of these people, it\u2019s like, \u2018Hey, are you actually good?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The Missouri product added, \u201cI\u2019m not even gonna lie to you, though, it\u2019s a little, kind of, frustrating. I\u2019m just at the point in my career where I just want to win.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cunningham\u2019s remarks made headlines since she has become a favorite among the Fever fanbase. She received a bit of backlash, though it seemed like her comments were taken out of context in a way since she was mostly dreading the entire process of free agency.<\/p>\n

After her remarks about her Fever contract went viral, Cunningham clarified what she was trying to say in a post on X<\/a>, formerly known as Twitter. She explained that it wasn\u2019t the amount she received, but all about the duration.<\/p>\n

I wanted to get a house so I could bring my dog and donkey to Indy with me. That\u2019s it. That\u2019s the truth. The Fever had a busy offseason, and Cunningham wasn\u2019t the only player from last season they re-signed. Kelsey Mitchell, Lexie Hull<\/a> and Damiris Dantas all signed new contracts.<\/p>\n

Caitlin Clark and Makayla Timpson received huge salary bumps, while Aliyah Boston<\/a> signed<\/a> the first-ever EPIC contract in WNBA history, a four-year, $6.3 million deal.<\/p>\n

The Fever also brought in several veteran players, such as Tyasha Harris, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, Monique Billings and Myisha Hines-Allen. They even drafted three solid young players in Raven Johnson<\/a>, Justine Pissott and Jessica Timmons.<\/p>\n
