{"id":619182,"date":"2026-04-21T16:38:13","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T16:38:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/619182\/"},"modified":"2026-04-21T16:38:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T16:38:13","slug":"lina-ghotmeh-unveils-pink-labyrinth-at-milan-design-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/619182\/","title":{"rendered":"Lina Ghotmeh unveils pink labyrinth at Milan design week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Architect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/lina-ghotmeh\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lina Ghotmeh<\/a> has filled the courtyard of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/milan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Milan<\/a>&#8216;s Palazzo Litta with the Metamorphosis in Motion labyrinth, which is open to visitors during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/milan-design-week\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Milan design week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The installation, which marks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linaghotmeh.com\/en\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ghotmeh<\/a>&#8216;s first site-specific solo outdoor work in Italy, references the existing geometry of the courtyard and draws attention to the palazzo&#8217;s baroque heritage, the architect said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2318748 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/lina-ghotmeh-pink-labyrinth-milan-design-week_dezeen_2364_col_26.jpg\" alt=\"Pink labyrinth by Lina Ghotmeh at Milan design week\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1578\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/>Lina Ghotmeh has created a pink labyrinth at Milan design week<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Conceived as a labyrinth, the installation invites visitors to slow down, encouraging moments of encounter, pause, and surprise,&#8221; Ghotmeh told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Curved geometries and rising volumes shift throughout the day, animated by natural light. Their soft tones frame the historic architecture, transforming the courtyard into a playful, immersive experience in constant motion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2318747 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/lina-ghotmeh-pink-labyrinth-milan-design-week_dezeen_2364_col_25.jpg\" alt=\"Pink installation in Palazzo Litta\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1578\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/>It is located in the courtyard of Palazzo Litta<\/p>\n<p>Metamorphosis in Motion was commissioned for the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moscapartners.it\/variations-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MoscaPartners Variations exhibition<\/a> and takes up the entire central courtyard of the palazzo.<\/p>\n<p>Its eye-catching pink hue was chosen because of its association with care.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the very specific times we are living today, I wanted a colour that brings a certain softness, gentleness and warmth,&#8221; Ghotmeh explained. &#8220;Pink hues are often associated with care, empathy, tenderness, all while signalling contemporary boldness.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2318728\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/lina-ghotmeh-pink-labyrinth-milan-design-week_dezeen_2364_col_7.jpg\" alt=\"Pink maze in Milan\" width=\"2364\" height=\"3546\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/>The installation was designed to encourage visitors to slow down. Photo by Takumi Ota<\/p>\n<p>While she is best known for her architecture, including her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/04\/15\/lina-ghotmeh-bahrain-pavilion-expo-2025-osaka\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">boat-like Bahrain Pavilion for Expo 2025 Osaka<\/a> and an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2023\/05\/16\/lina-ghotmeh-hermes-workshop-louviers-france\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">arched-brick workshop for leather brand Herm\u00e8s<\/a>, Ghotmeh also enjoys working on smaller-scale projects.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Architecture, for me, operates across scales and timeframes,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/10\/01\/lina-ghotmeh-time100-next-list\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/lina-ghotmeh-qatar-pavilion-venice-architecture-bienalle_dezeen_2364_col_1-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Lina Ghotmeh portrait\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p> Lina Ghotmeh named one of the world&#8217;s most influential rising stars by Time\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Short-term projects become testing grounds for experimentation and quick iteration. Installations foster an immediate closeness with people, both in their experience and in their making,&#8221; Ghotmeh continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Designed and completed within three months, this project embodies that condensed process and I am happy that it will soon continue its life in a new setting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2318725\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/lina-ghotmeh-pink-labyrinth-milan-design-week_dezeen_2364_col_5.jpg\" alt=\"Pink installation at Milan design week\" width=\"2364\" height=\"3546\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/>It was constructed from wood and was designed to be reusable. Photo by Takumi Ota<\/p>\n<p>The project is one of numerous installations taking place as part of this year&#8217;s Milan design week, which has often come under criticism for its sheer size and the increasing prevalence of big brands.<\/p>\n<p>But Ghotmeh sees the event as also being an opportunity to embrace connectivity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Although such events can sometimes feel intense, I see them as rare moments that bring people together,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They demonstrate how design and culture function as shared languages; capable of connecting us across backgrounds and perspectives.
