DAVIS, Calif. \u2014 With the regular season in the rearview mirror, UC Davis women’s tennis embarks on their final Big West Championship down in San Diego from Apr. 22-25. The road to the NCAA Championships begins on Wednesday, Apr. 22 at 9:00 a.m. PT when the Aggies face off against No. 8 ranked Hawai’i.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe doubles pair of Polina Marakhtanova<\/a> and Mika Ikemori<\/a> made it to the second round of doubles at ITA Regionals.\u00a0
\n\tMaya Youssef<\/a> and Marakhtanova both advanced to the next round in singles at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships.\u00a0\u00a0
\n\tThe Aggies excelled at their last competition, the San Jose State Hidden duals, where they faced off against opponents from SJSU, Santa Clara, and Nevada.\u00a0\u00a0
\n\tAggie Tennis will have its first-ever full season with a brand-new scoreboard, kindly donated by the Khourie family.\u00a0\u00a0
\n\tSophomore transfer Aileena Hu<\/a> scored the only point for the Aggies, defeating Arizona’s Tanvi Narendran 7-5, 7-5.\u00a0\u00a0
\n\tFreshman Vivian Gallaway<\/a> defeated both of her opponents in straight sets throughout the doubleheader home opener.\u00a0\u00a0
\n\tJunior Ikemori contributed to both of UC Davis’s only points against UCSB and Cal Poly, defeating her doubles opponent with partner Polina Marakhtanova<\/a> and winning her singles match against Cal Poly’s Jessica MacCallum.\u00a0\u00a0
\n\tSenior Youssef went 1-0 at No. 3 singles and 1-1 at No. 2 doubles against Washington State and UC Irvine for UC Davis. She earned a comeback singles win over UC Irvine’s Carolyna Fowler, rallying after dropping the first set to take the match in three sets. In doubles, Youssef and Isabella Bringas<\/a> picked up a 7-6 win over UC Irvine at No. 2 doubles, helping UC Davis compete strongly across the weekend.\u00a0\u00a0
\n\tIkemori went 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles against Stanislaus State, Menlo, and Saint Mary’s, including a come-from-behind victory at #1 doubles against St. Mary’s to clinch the doubles point.\u00a0\u00a0
\n\tSophomore Marakhtanova went 2-0 in singles and 0-2 in doubles over the weekend against Santa Clara and Nevada. She came out strong at #1 singles to be 1 of 4 Ags to win in singles for the 4-3 team victory.\u00a0
\n\tIn a two match Big West weekend against UC Riverside and Long Beach State, Marakhtanova continued her strong singles play by going 2-0 while splitting a 1-1 doubles record with Ikemori.
\n\tGoing against conference opponent Martina Markov in a match with Cal State Fullerton, Marakhtanova won in straight sets as she helped her team battle a strong Titans team at home.
\n\tIn a dominant home win against Idaho State, Marakhtanova made the biggest impact with No. 1 wins in both the singles and doubles court.
\n\tNow up to 21 overall wins on the season (10 in singles, 11 in doubles) Marakhtanova continues to lead the Aggies after two more wins on Senior Day against UC San Diego.
\n\tWith their win against Hawai’i in the Islands on Apr. 11, UC Davis made history by securing their first road win versus the Rainbow Wahine.

\n\tHawai’i is 6-10 on the season, dropping their final two regular season matches against Fullerton and CSUN last weekend.
\n\tIn singles, junior Hannah Galindo leads the ‘Bows with a 12-4 record with a 7-2 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, in doubles, Galindo and Makeilah Nepomuceno lead their team with a 9-6 and 6-3 record.
\n\tHawai’i leads the all-time series against UC Davis 7-13. The Aggies made history two weeks ago in the series with their first ever win in the Hawaiian Islands.

\n\tVeteran Leadership: The 2025-26 squad features an experienced upper class led by seniors Kaia Wolfe<\/a> and Maya Youseff, and juniors Mika Ikemori<\/a> and Sophia Sappa<\/a>.\u00a0
\n\tFollowing a long tenure as assistant under Aggie legend Bill Maze, Head Coach Sara Jackson<\/a> returns for her 2nd season.\u00a0
\n\tAssistant Coach Matthew Foster-Etswick returns for his second season with the Aggies after a successful debut season.\u00a0
\n\tNew Additions: UC Davis welcomes 2 newcomers in 2025, with one true freshman and a sophomore transfer joining the Aggie roster.
\n\tThis is the final season for UC Davis in the Big West before the team transitions to the Mountain West in 2026-27, and the team looks to end its long tenure in the conference on a high note.
