Surrey chemo suite expands to 39 chairs with $1.4M in donations<\/p>\n

Greater access to timely cancer care is promised at an expanded chemotherapy suite at the BC Cancer facility in North Surrey.<\/p>\n
Six new treatment chairs will increase the centre\u2019s treatment capacity by 20 per cent, BC Cancer Foundation said at a news conference Monday (April 20).<\/p>\n
More than 500 donors came together from across Surrey, White Rock and the broader Fraser region to raise $1.4 million to make the expansion possible.<\/p>\n
There are now 39 treatment chairs at the 96 Avenue facility, one of BC Cancer\u2019s six regional care centres.<\/p>\n
Up to 420 additional treatments monthly will \u201csignificantly reduce wait times, helping approximately 370 patients begin treatment sooner every month, easing the stress and uncertainty that can come with delays,\u201d BC Cancer Foundation estimates.<\/p>\n
White Rock\u2019s Manjit Lit was among donors who supported the foundation\u2019s fundraising campaign to expand the chemotherapy space in Surrey. \u201cInspired by the cancer journey and fundraising efforts of late community leader Avtar Singh Virdi, Manjit rallied his peers to raise an incredible $260,000.\u201d<\/p>\n
