Mounties say they have dismantled a clandestine drug laboratory in Colinton, a small hamlet north of Edmonton.<\/p>\n
Athabasca RCMP say they were told about the synthetic drug lab on April 13 after a resident reported unknown materials in a building along 50th Avenue.<\/p>\n
Authorities proceeded to dismantle it between April 14 to 17.<\/p>\n
They say it was a complex dismantling process \u201cdue to the extreme toxicity of the chemicals,\u201d and specialized chemists and hazardous waste experts were called it to help.<\/p>\n
Some of the items seized included one kilogram of suspected fentanyl and precursor chemicals.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe scale of this laboratory and the toxicity of the chemicals found pose a serious threat not only to those involved but to the surrounding community,\u201d said Sgt. Justin Dawley with the Athabasca RCMP. \u201cBy dismantling this operation, thousands of potentially fatal doses have been prevented from reaching Albertans.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Athabasca RCMP investigation remains ongoing, as police continue to search for suspects.<\/p>\n
