{"id":619706,"date":"2026-04-21T22:11:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T22:11:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/619706\/"},"modified":"2026-04-21T22:11:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T22:11:09","slug":"sinkhole-disrupts-traffic-on-a-major-mississauga-route","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/619706\/","title":{"rendered":"Sinkhole disrupts traffic on a major Mississauga route"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Work crews are at the scene trying to repair a sinkhole that has disrupted rush hour traffic in Mississauga (April 21).<\/p>\n<p>According to Peel Public Works, the sinkhole is considered \u201csmall-scale,\u201d but it is dangerous to vehicles and could get larger.<\/p>\n<p>The sinhole is located in the southbound right turn lane on Erin Mills Parkway and Banfield Road.<\/p>\n<p>Repairs are scheduled to begin tomorrow and may include the closure of the southbound slow lane.<\/p>\n<p>The hole was first noticed and reported this afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>While the cause of the sinkhole has not been determined, typically, sinkholes can occur\u00a0due to the wear and tear of traffic. They can also happen when underground infrastructure, such as water pipes or sewer lines, leak, which causes underlying soil to wash away and create a hidden cavity beneath the pavement.
