Dezeen Showroom:<\/a> Dutch design brand Bert Plantagie<\/a> has collaborated with architecture studio Mecanoo<\/a> to design Macaron, a modular sofa<\/a> system modelled on and named after the famous French confection.<\/p>\n

Launching at Masterly<\/a> during Milan design week<\/a>, Macaron<\/a> was designed by Bert Plantagie<\/a> and Mecanoo<\/a> as a flexible seating system that can be reconfigured to suit multiple environments.<\/p>\n

According to the team, the modules are characterised by curves and layers intended to playfully emulate a macaron, the famous meringue-based sweet treat originating in Paris.<\/p>\n

“True to its name, the modular sofa system is engineered as a functional macaron,” said the team.<\/p>\n

“This modular, circular, and layered construction is the core of the collection’s identity, offering a configuration for every taste,” it continued.<\/p>\n

“To ensure future adaptability and resilience over time, the collection prioritises flexibility; this layering allows users to mix and match individual pieces to create an identity tailored to their surroundings.”<\/p>\n

The Macaron modules come in various shapes and sizes, united by chunky silhouettes and curved edges. They have wooden frames, available in walnut and oak, and are covered in bio-based textiles in a range of colours.<\/p>\n

The modules can be joined together or be used independently to create a variety of formations, which the team said makes Macaron “suitable for use at home, at work, in airports, at universities, or within museums”.<\/p>\n

The showcase at Milan design week will display six possible arrangements to illustrate the collection’s versatility.<\/p>\n
