One person was found dead after a fire at a highrise apartment in central Winnipeg on Monday, police say.<\/p>\n

Police and fire-paramedic crews were called to the fire at 444 Kennedy St., in the city’s Central Park neighbourhood, just after 1:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

In a Tuesday news release, police said a person was found dead inside a suite in the building. They did not release any information about the person, and said there is “no additional update to provide” about them.<\/p>\n

Residents were evacuated from the building as firefighters battled the blaze.<\/p>\n

The fire was declared under control at 2:20 p.m., the city said in a separate news release.<\/p>\n
