Calgary police issued more than 40 summons during a three-hour targeted traffic enforcement operation over the weekend, including one driver clocked at 147 km\/h.<\/p>\n
The Calgary Police Service said District 2 officers conducted enforcement along Stoney Trail and Bow Trail S.W. on Saturday, issuing more than 40 summons and 10 warnings during the operation.<\/p>\n

Ongoing enforcement along that stretch of Stoney Trail has resulted in more than 200 summons in only a few months, police said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
April is \u201cSpeed Month,\u201d police said, adding that speed is a major factor in serious collisions.<\/p>\n
In a separate incident, Calgary police said a driver was stopped travelling 179 km\/h in a 110 km\/h zone on northbound Deerfoot Trail at 11 p.m. on April 14 and was issued a summons to court.<\/p>\n
Police reported another April 14 stop on southbound Crowchild Trail, where a driver travelling 136 km\/h in an 80 km\/h zone received a mandatory court summons.<\/p>\n
The Crowchild Trail driver had three passengers and had been licensed for six months, police said.<\/p>\n
Alberta RCMP said unsafe speed plays a role in about one in four fatal collisions.<\/p>\n
According to Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors, 23.4 per cent of fatal collisions in 2023 involved drivers travelling at a speed too great for conditions.<\/p>\n
Driving too fast cuts down reaction time and increases the force of impact, putting everyone on the road in danger, police said, urging drivers to slow down, stay patient and help ensure that everyone gets where they\u2019re going safely.<\/p>\n
