It doesn\u2019t appear Hall of Fame defenceman Chris Pronger<\/a> will be the next general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The 51-year-old Canadian joined TSN 1050\u2019s First Up on Wednesday morning<\/a> and clarified he has not interviewed for the vacant position despite speculation he was in the running. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere were rumours that I interviewed for the GM job, I did not interview for that role\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of rumours out there. I\u2019m in the media like you guys. I\u2019m interested to see how this all plays out too,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s some vicious rumours out there that said I interviewed for the GM job. I did not interview for that role.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Maple Leafs are in need of a new general manager after firing Brad Treliving in late March following a disastrous 2025-26 season that\u00a0saw Toronto miss the playoffs for the first time since 2015-16.<\/p>\n

They finished last in the Atlantic Division with a 32-36-14 record. <\/p>\n

Pronger, who now works in hockey media and recently released a book about his playing career, added he\u2019s always willing to listen to potential new opportunities, but the situation needs to be right.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited for this next chapter. As I\u2019ve said numerous times, I\u2019m open to having a conversation and seeing what an opportunity might look like,\u201d said Pronger. \u201cWhether it\u2019s a fit for me, whether it\u2019s a fit for the other side. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn\u2019t, sometimes the timing is not right and sometimes the opportunity doesn\u2019t fit what you\u2019re looking for at any given time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pronger scored 157 goals and 541 assists over 1,167 career games in the NHL with the Hartford Whalers, St. Louis Blues<\/a>, Edmonton Oilers<\/a>, Anaheim Ducks<\/a> and Philadelphia Flyers<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Pronger won a Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007 and captured Olympic gold with Team Canada in 2002 and 2010. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015. <\/p>\n
