The investment supports upgrades to bus storage facilities for zero-emission vehicles and planning for expanded cycling infrastructure.

Bus facility upgrades for electric transit

The Government of Canada is investing $5,750,744 and Government of Ontario is contributing $4,791,807 to design and implement modifications to three MiWay bus storage and maintenance facilities. The upgrades will add charging infrastructure and improve electrical utilities to accommodate battery electric buses, supporting Mississauga’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 per cent by 2050.

Cycling infrastructure planning

A second investment, $5,750,744 federal and $4,791,807 provincial, will fund planning and preliminary design for approximately eight kilometres of bicycle paths on Aquitaine Avenue, Argentia Road, and Millcreek Drive. This work supports Mississauga’s Cycling Master Plan and improves connections to GO Transit stations in Meadowvale and Lisgar.

Both projects are funded through the Public Transit Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

Quote

“This investment demonstrates that our federal and provincial partners recognize the importance of continued investment in Mississauga’s transit and active transportation infrastructure. Upgrading our transit facilities to support zero-emissions buses moves us closer to our climate goals. At the same time, new planning for safer cycling routes will make it easier for residents to choose active transportation. Together, these projects help build a cleaner, more connected and more sustainable Mississauga now and for the future.” – Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish

Tags

    Media contact

City of Mississauga Media Relations
media@mississauga.ca
905-615-3200, ext. 5232
TTY: 905-896-5151
Get email updates

The City welcomes funding from the federal and provincial governments to improve bus and cycling infrastructure. The…

[194297
49,48,55405
0":"post-621402","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-mississauga","8":"tag-ca","9":"tag-canada","10":"tag-mississauga
["GET
