After Stephen A. Smith dismissed NASCAR<\/a> drivers as non-athletes during a recent SiriusXM segment<\/a>, the former Cup Series champion stepped in with a response that was just as direct \u2014 and far more personal.<\/p>\n

Smith\u2019s comments quickly made waves across the motorsports world. Busch made sure they didn\u2019t go unanswered.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s go cupcake. I will personally drive you around a nascar track for 30mins or when you pass out on lap 30,\u201d Busch wrote in response to Smith\u2019s comments on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cStephen A., what\u2019s going on, my man?\u201d the message read. \u201cWe heard that ABSOLUTELY PREPOSTEROUS take of yours claiming NASCAR drivers aren\u2019t athletes, and quite frankly, we were stunned. Stunned!\u201d<\/p>\n

The team didn\u2019t stop there.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo here\u2019s what we\u2019re gonna do; we\u2019re inviting you to step out of that studio, come down here, and hop in for a ride-along with one of our three Cup Series drivers. Then you can tell the world how \u2018not athletic\u2019 it feels going 180 miles per hour, pulling G-forces, and fighting that wheel for three straight hours. We\u2019ll be waiting.\u201d<\/p>\n

The response echoed Busch\u2019s core point \u2014 that the reality of NASCAR isn\u2019t something that can be understood from the outside looking in.<\/p>\n

And as more voices continue to push back, Smith\u2019s comments have clearly struck a nerve well beyond a single driver.<\/p>\n

This Debate Isn\u2019t Going Anywhere<\/p>\n
