{"id":621498,"date":"2026-04-22T17:36:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T17:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/621498\/"},"modified":"2026-04-22T17:36:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T17:36:08","slug":"surrey-sees-more-gunfire-as-extortion-shooting-count-rises-to-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/621498\/","title":{"rendered":"Surrey sees more gunfire as extortion shooting count rises to 16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>              Surrey sees more gunfire as extortion shooting count rises to 16<\/p>\n<p class=\"pubStamp\">Published 9:27 am Wednesday, April 22, 2026<\/p>\n<p>Police in Surrey are investigating an overnight extortion-related shooting in Surrey\u2019s Whalley neighbourhood.<\/p>\n<p>Surrey Police responded to a call of a shooting at a home in the 13400-block of 87A Avenue around 12:40 a.m. Wednesday (April 22).<\/p>\n<p>No one was injured, but police found the home had been damaged by gunfire, and they found bullet casings outside.<\/p>\n<p>SPS\u2019s Extortion Response Team (ExRT) is investigating the shooting, and officers will be at the home today processing the scene with help from the Integrated Forensic Identification Services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough this incident is in the early stages of investigation, the motivation for the shooting is believed to be extortion,\u201d Surrey Police said in a news release Wednesday (April 22).<\/p>\n<p>This is Surrey\u2019s 16th extortion-related shooting this year.
