Police in Surrey are investigating an overnight extortion-related shooting in Surrey\u2019s Whalley neighbourhood.<\/p>\n
Surrey Police responded to a call of a shooting at a home in the 13400-block of 87A Avenue around 12:40 a.m. Wednesday (April 22).<\/p>\n
No one was injured, but police found the home had been damaged by gunfire, and they found bullet casings outside.<\/p>\n
SPS\u2019s Extortion Response Team (ExRT) is investigating the shooting, and officers will be at the home today processing the scene with help from the Integrated Forensic Identification Services.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlthough this incident is in the early stages of investigation, the motivation for the shooting is believed to be extortion,\u201d Surrey Police said in a news release Wednesday (April 22).<\/p>\n
This is Surrey\u2019s 16th extortion-related shooting this year. Surrey Police said Monday (April 20) that there have been 87 extortion reports, 46 victims, 25 of which are repeat victims, and two extortion-related arson cases in 2026.<\/p>\n
