April 22 (UPI) — A24 is giving a glimpse of the new film The Death of Robin Hood.<\/p>\n

The movie is a dark reimagining of the folk hero Robin Hood and is inspired by the 17th-century ballad Robin Hood’s Death.<\/p>\n

Most frequently depicted as a vigilante hero who “robs the rich to give to the poor,” this Robin Hood played by Hugh Jackman is instead a violent outlaw named Roman.<\/p>\n

“People speak of Robin Hood, tell his stories. They’re all lies. Lies that I told long ago, so that fools would follow me into the dark,” the character says in the trailer<\/a>. “We were monsters.”<\/p>\n

“This world cares only about blood, and blood is all I will give in return,” he adds.<\/p>\n

Jodie Comer and Bill Skarsg\u00e5rd also star in the film, written and directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig, A Quiet Place: Day One).<\/p>\n

The Death of Robin Hood opens in theaters June 19.<\/p>\n
