If you\u2019ve ever been to a Foo Fighters<\/a> show, you\u2019ve witnessed Dave Grohl<\/a> screaming his lungs out. Yet, somehow the frontman has managed to avoid the vocal-cord issues that have plagued many of his rock \u2018n\u2019 roll peers.<\/p>\n

So, what\u2019s his secret, you ask? According to Grohl, it\u2019s beer, Advil, whiskey, and more beer (and more whiskey). The seasoned rocker revealed as much during a conversation with Dish Podcast hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe eight years ago, I had to go get my vocal cords checked out and I\u2019d never done that,\u201d said Grohl. \u201cAnd the [doctor] sticks the camera down into my throat\u2026 And he looks at my vocal cords and he goes, \u2019Wow, they look great.\u201d And I said, \u2018You\u2019re kidding.\u2019 He said, \u201cNo, they look amazing. Do you do vocal warm-ups?\u201d I said, \u2018No, I don\u2019t.\u2019 And he goes, \u2018OK, do you do like vocal cooldowns after a show?\u2019 I said, \u2018No.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cAnd he said, \u2018Well, what do you do before a gig?\u2019 I said, \u2019Honestly? An hour before the show, I\u2019ll open a beer and I\u2019ll start drinking the beer. I might take an Advil because my knees hurt, my ankles hurt \u2014 whatever, I\u2019m old. Then I\u2019ll have a shot of whiskey. And then once the beer is done, I\u2019ll open another beer. Then we\u2019ll maybe have a group shot of whiskey, which we call \u2018band prayer.\u2019 Then someone will say \u201815 minutes\u2019 and I open one more beer and have one more shot and then hit the stage.\u2019<\/p>\n

Grohl concluded, \u201cAnd my doctor said, \u2018Just don\u2019t change what you\u2019re doing. It\u2019s working.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018OK, great.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans can catch Grohl and his miraculous vocal cords when Foo Fighters embark on a North American stadium tour<\/a> with support from Queens of the Stone Age this summer. The outing runs from early August through late September (get tickets here<\/a>).<\/p>\n
