Liege-Bastogne-Liege<\/a> on Sunday, Seixas shrugged off the pre-race hype and dismantled his rivals with a brutal, clinical finish that belied his 19 years.<\/p>\n\u201cI want to thank all my teammates, because they did a perfect job. Last year I was still watching this race on television and now I win here, it is incredible,\u201d Seixas said at the line. \u201cAt 300 meters from the finish line I saw that my competitors were suffering and I gave everything right to the finish.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mauro Schmid (Jayco-AlUla) was second and Ben Tulett (Visma-Lease a Bike) rounded out the podium in the mid-week classic that serves as a preview of what lies ahead for Sunday\u2019s much longer and more daunting Li\u00e8ge.<\/p>\n
All eyes were on Seixas, and Decathlon CMA CGM did its share of work to reel in the early move. The young Frenchman had four teammates leading him into the finale.<\/p>\n
Like almost every year, it all came down to the Mur de Huy in the 90th edition of the \u201cWallonne Arrow.\u201d<\/p>\n
The stats don\u2019t tell the full story, because on paper it\u2019s 1.4km at 9.1 percent. The wall hits ramps as steep as 26 percent, and gets steeper as the pavement climbs up.<\/p>\n
The traditional attacking point comes at about 200m to go coming out of the last corner on 10 percent-plus grades.<\/p>\n
Nearly sets a new record<\/p>\n
In his seventh win in 2026, the 19-year-old now has the cycling world on fire. On Wednesday, he was without rival. Crashes disrupted the final run-in toward the Mur, but Seixas avoided the mayhem.<\/p>\n
Sexias attacked from even further out, and after a bit of hesitation, found the right gear and powered to the line with everyone choking on his fumes to become the youngest winner in the race\u2019s history.<\/p>\n
Seixas came within two seconds of the all-time Mur de Huy climbing record. His time of 2 minutes, 43 seconds was just shy of the 2:41 benchmark held by Philippe Gilbert and Alejandro Valverde. And he was faster than Tadej Poga\u010dar\u2019s 2:46 in 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cI showed today that my form is good, so we are going to do our best,\u201d Seixas said. \u201cSunday in Li\u00e8ge will be a different story, but I\u2019m going to fight to be in the best possible position.\u201d<\/p>\n
