Family sells Surrey corner store after 60+ years in business<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the end of an era for one Surrey convenience store.<\/p>\n
Thursday, April 23 is the final day of business for the family that has operated Soo\u2019s Market for the past 67 years.<\/p>\n
New owners will take over the store, at the corner of 108 Avenue and 140 Street.<\/p>\n
Phoned by the Now-Leader, a Soo family member said they are reluctant to talk publicly about the sale, given a busy and emotional week of work to close shop and transfer ownership.<\/p>\n
On Facebook, however, many fondly remember the market with comments on a post by Andrea Olafson-Morley on a We Grew Up in Surrey BC <\/a>page<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m told it will continue to be a corner store with their signature flowers and hopefully great prices,\u201d she reported.<\/p>\n The longtime market owners \u201care such sweet people,\u201d added Clair Marie.<\/p>\n \u201cLiving just a couple blocks from there, I spent a lot of time there as a kid, late 60\u2019s through the 70\u2019s. Great corner store,\u201d remembered Lorie Zachariuk.<\/p>\n The family opened the store in 1959, according to David Dahl, who says he went to school with Wayne Soo for 12 years.<\/p>\n \u201cWow, that place was around my entire childhood. So cool they\u2019ve kept it going as long as they did!\u201d posted Candice Tanya Alexander.<\/p>\n \u201cThey did my wedding flowers, 1981, lovely folks,\u201d recalled Denise Gallant.<\/p>\n Charlotte Teichrib says her niece has worked there for the last six years, \u201cas did lots of kids in my family!
