\u201cTo everyone in this room I just want to thank you for your consistent advocacy, thank you so much for taking a stand for the environment,\u201d said Mike Moyes, minister of environment and climate change.<\/p>\n
The day kicked off at the legislative building, hosted by environment minister Mike Moyes, who announced $170,000 in funding annually for the next three years into ClimateWest, 200 thousand to the University of Winnipeg\u2019s Prairie Climate Centre and 400 thousand Eco-West Canada Southeast Regional Transportation Initiative<\/p>\n
\u201cThis project is going to expand\u00a0 EV charging infrastructure, and has a very innovative way of developing mobility across our rural region,\u201d Moyes said.<\/p>\n
The environmental mixer also provided a networking opportunity for organizations stakeholders, and activists.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe all come together, we exchange the work that we\u2019re doing, ideas, future projects, tips, and also hear from the minister on the good work that they\u2019re doing, and maybe push him a little bit more to do a little bit more to protect the environment, protect our lands, waters, to address climate change,\u201d said James Beddome, executive director of the Manitoba Economic Network. <\/p>\n
Down Broadway, The Forks held a full day of activities for earth day with a theme centred around repair, which included clothing repair workshops, an e-waste drop off, a makers market, and the highlight: a fashion show beginning in the evening, showcasing all repurposed and recycled clothes.<\/p>\n
\u201cI invited 16 designers to our warehouse, so everything is primarily made out of second hand materials, and then they had the job to create one or two extravagant pieces for the runway,\u201d said Alisha Murray, CEO, Reclothify and fashion show organizer.<\/p>\n
\u201cAny activities that anyone can do to promote sustainability is very timely and super important,\u201d said Helga Jakobson, Sustainability Coordinator at The Forks. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really lovely to be at The Forks, its such an open and accessible open space, so it brings a lot of folks who maybe wouldn\u2019t have even known that earth day was today.\u201d<\/p>\n
