Amid a midweek MLS slate that featured a pair of 4-4 draws, the wildest moment of the night belonged to Toronto FC goalkeeper Luka Gavran.<\/p>\n
The 25-year-old Canadian scored on a header at the death to steal a point for TFC against the Philadelphia Union at BMO Field on Wednesday night. Philadelphia, the reigning yet struggling Supporters\u2019 Shield winner, led 2-0, blew that lead and then seized it back in the 89th minute through Nathan Harriel, seemingly on course for the 3 points. The Union didn\u2019t account for the heroic efforts of Gavran, though, who charged forward for a free kick and wound up in prime position to get his head \u2013 and his shoulder \u2013 to Alonso Coello\u2019s cross in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time.<\/p>\n
Goals by goalkeepers in MLS are rare but not unprecedented. Danny Cepero was first to do it, in 2008 for the New York Red Bulls, with a fluky 81-yard free kick taking a favorable bounce on the Giants Stadium turf over his Columbus Crew counterpart, Andy Gruenebaum. It was Columbus that benefited from a goalkeeper goal a couple of years later, when William Hesmer stole a draw in Toronto against TFC.<\/p>\n
