5.5-year sentence for Burnaby meth smuggler caught at Surrey border<\/p>\n

A woman caught more than four years ago trying to import 100 kilgrams of methamphetamine through the Pacific Highway border in South Surrey has been sentenced to 5.5 years in prison.<\/p>\n
According to a news release, Burnaby resident Sukhvinder Kaur Sangha, 47, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful importation of meth, in connection with the arrest of a northbound traveller who fled during a vehicle inspection on Oct. 18, 2021.<\/p>\n
Intercepted and returned to the port by an officer with the RCMP Federal Policing Pacific Region, Integrated Border Enforcement Team, the vehicle was found to contain \u201cseveral large commercially sealed bags containing a white crystalline substance\u201d in duffel bags in the trunk, a news release issued at the time<\/a> states.<\/p>\n The female driver was arrested for fleeing the port and smuggling after a Canada Border Services Agency detector dog alerted officers to narcotics.<\/p>\n Sangha was sentenced on April 10, 2026.<\/p>\n \u201cThis case sends a clear message that those who attempt to traffic harmful drugs into our country will be held accountable,\u201d Cpl.
