The Patriots<\/a> could use some depth at running back, so they took the first step in addressing that on Monday. <\/p>\n

New England hosted Shane Watts, according to ESPN\u2019s Mike Reiss<\/a>. He was one of the top running backs in Division II football at Fort Hays State. <\/p>\n

In July, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football league announced they signed Watts<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During his 2024 collegiate season, Watts rushed for 1,303 yards with 13 touchdowns, and 449 receiving yards with four touchdowns.<\/p>\n

The Patriots are looking at external options after becoming thin at the running back position internally. Rhamondre Stevenson<\/a> hasn\u2019t returned to practice since Friday\u2019s preseason opener against the Washington Commanders. It\u2019s unclear if the veteran running back is injured. <\/p>\n

Lan Larison was placed on injured reserve after he broke his foot against Washington<\/a>, Terrell Jennings left Monday\u2019s practice early and Deneric Prince \u2014 who the Patriots recently signed<\/a> \u2014 didn\u2019t practice Monday. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear if Watts will sign with the Patriots. <\/p>\n
