The Met Gala<\/a> was a one-and-done event for Billy Porter<\/a>. On the Bevelations SiriusXM show<\/a>, Porter said Ryan Murphy invited him to his first Gala in 2019, and he hasn\u2019t been invited back since. \u201cThat\u2019s the only time I\u2019ve ever gone, and the only time I\u2019ve ever been invited,\u201d he said. \u201cThe reality is, when people ask me, you need to know I was not invited and I\u2019m good.\u201d Porter added that he was particularly hurt by not getting an invite to the 2025 Gala<\/a>, in honor of the \u201cSuperfine: Tailoring Black Style\u201d exhibition. That\u2019s the one where people thought Blackpink\u2019s Lisa wore underwear with Rosa Parks\u2019s face on them, if you\u2019ll recall. For the record, she did not<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t go to places where I\u2019m not welcome,\u201d Porter said. \u201cI\u2019ve earned the invitation and it\u2019s ok that I don\u2019t have it because there\u2019s a level that I\u2019ve reached that doesn\u2019t require validation from the outside. I\u2019m going to sit and live in that because it helps keep me sane, too.\u201d The Pose actor\u2019s relationship with Vogue and Anna Wintour, who host the Met Gala, has been mixed. Porter accused the magazine of queerbaiting in 2023 when they made Harry Styles the first man to grace the cover in a dress. \u201cIt\u2019s not Harry Styles\u2019s fault that he happens to be white and cute and straight and fit into the infrastructure that way. That\u2019s why he\u2019s on the cover. Non-binary blah blah blah blah. No. It doesn\u2019t feel good to me. You\u2019re using my community \u2014 or your people are using my community \u2014 to elevate you. You haven\u2019t had to sacrifice anything,\u201d he said<\/a>, adding that Wintour reached out before the cover went live. \u201cThat bitch said to me at the end, \u2018How can we do better?\u2019 And I was so taken off guard that I didn\u2019t say what I should have said.\u201d<\/p>\n If Porter only got one chance to walk the stepped carpet, at least he went all out. For the 2019 camp-themed Gala<\/a>, Porter arrived on a palanquin carried by shirtless men. He was dressed by The blonds as a winged golden phoenix.
