{"id":625969,"date":"2026-04-24T17:21:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T17:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/625969\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T17:21:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T17:21:10","slug":"government-approves-enbridge-4b-sunrise-natural-gas-project-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/625969\/","title":{"rendered":"Government approves Enbridge $4B Sunrise natural gas project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">CALGARY \u2014 Ottawa has approved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bnnbloomberg.ca\/stock\/ENB:CT\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bnnbloomberg.ca\/stock\/ENB:CT\/\">Enbridge Inc.<\/a>\u2019s $4-billion Sunrise natural gas pipeline project in British Columbia, bolstering a West Coast liquefied natural gas project in which the company has a stake, Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson said Friday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cOur commitment to Canadians was to get projects approved and built \u2014 and with today\u2019s approval of the Sunrise Expansion Program, we\u2019re doing just that,\u201d Hodgson said in a news release. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThis project will enable us to heat more homes, businesses, hospitals and schools while bolstering British Columbian industry, including for LNG, and creating thousands of jobs. It is proof that, in partnership with industry and Indigenous partners, we can strengthen energy security and price stability and create new international trade opportunities while meeting rigorous environmental and safety standards. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThis is what being an energy superpower looks like.\u201d\u2028<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The project, which would see an expansion of Enbridge\u2019s Westcoast natural gas pipeline system, includes the addition of about 140 kilometres of new pipeline by constructing 11 looping segments parallel to the existing line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It will add up to 300 mmbtu per day of transportation capacity on B.C.\u2019s major natural gas transmission system, which Ottawa said would help ensure B.C. has enough gas supply as export facilities like Woodfibre LNG come online.
