This used to be the universal metric for measuring strength but for this generation it seems to be the deadlift. I don\u2019t do either at my age (I\u2019m over 50) because my priority is joint health, so I stick to dumbbells and machines and try to get to failure from reps.<\/p>\n
At my best, max bench was 315 for three reps; back flat, feet on the floor, no resting on chest (but a small bounce) and no holding it at the top.<\/p>\n
That said, I always found a strong military press to be more impressive.<\/p>\n
I do miss the heavier weight, hard to be surrounded by younger guys ripping heavy metal and not feel the urge to go for it. The crippling fear of injury gives me pause.<\/p>\n
