The wind warning for areas around Airdrie and Crossfield ended Friday evening, after strong gusts nearing 90 km\/h moved through the region and caused scattered damage.<\/p>\n

Environment and Climate Change Canada had issued the wind warning for Rocky View County near Airdrie and Crossfield, saying gusts in the Calgary region intensified Friday morning following a prolonged period of strong winds.<\/p>\n

Residents reported damage as conditions moved through, sharing images of debris and impacted property in several Airdrie neighbourhoods.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The federal weather agency warned during the event that \u201chigh-sided vehicles will be pushed around by the wind\u201d and that \u201csome property damage is possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

The wind also disrupted events in Calgary.<\/p>\n

Calgary Expo cancelled its outdoor POW! Parade of Wonders and replaced it with an indoor event, citing \u201ca rise in projected wind speeds,\u201d according to organizers.<\/p>\n

The event was moved to the BMO Centre, where a revised \u201cPOW! Party of Wonders\u201d program was scheduled to begin Friday morning.<\/p>\n

At Calgary International Airport, winds were recorded from the north-northwest at 55 km\/h, gusting to 91 km\/h as of 2 p.m. Friday, according to Environment Canada observations.<\/p>\n

Also in Calgary, fire crews responded to more than 225 emergency calls over the previous 24 hours, including multiple wind-related incidents, according to a Calgary Fire Department news release.<\/p>\n

The department said the calls included \u201cproperty damage and downed power lines related to fallen trees,\u201d adding that no injuries had been reported.<\/p>\n

In the release, Calgary Fire said it responds to severe weather events each year and that its operations and technical teams \u201care prepared and will continue responding to any life hazard incidents.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rocky View County Fire Services urged residents during the conditions to avoid outdoor burning.<\/p>\n

In a social media post, the county said residents should refrain from all outdoor burning and ensure any existing fires are fully extinguished, noting permits are not valid when winds exceed 12 km\/h.<\/p>\n

It added that recent incidents, including a grass fire in west Calgary and a downed power line in Rocky View County, highlight how quickly fires can start in high winds.<\/p>\n

In Airdrie, the city said some residents experienced missed garbage collection or carts being blown over due to the wind.<\/p>\n

The city said it will notify affected communities through MyAirdrie alerts. Residents who missed Thursday or Friday collection were asked to call 311.<\/p>\n

For blue cart concerns, residents can contact GFL Environmental or use the city\u2019s recycling depot.<\/p>\n
