Calgary police are highlighting a series of high-speed driving incidents across the city this week, including one involving a teenage driver stopped without headlights.<\/p>\n

According to police, officers pulled over a 17-year-old driver with a Class 5 GDL licence at about 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, after the vehicle was travelling 130 km\/h in an 80 km\/h zone on McKnight Boulevard N.E. Police said the driver was also operating the vehicle without headlights and could not provide proof of insurance. The driver received tickets for speeding, driving without lights and failing to produce valid insurance.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Police reported additional high-speed incidents the following day.<\/p>\n
At about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, a driver was stopped on Stoney Trail near 16 Avenue N.E. travelling 169 km\/h while weaving through heavy traffic, according to police. The driver received a mandatory court summons.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Less than four hours later, just before 7 p.m., an SUV was stopped travelling 158 km\/h on northbound Stoney Trail near Glenmore Trail, police said. That driver was also issued a mandatory court summons.<\/p>\n
Later that night, at about 11 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle travelling 90 km\/h in a 50 km\/h zone on southbound 60th Street at Redstone Drive N.E., according to police. The driver faces a $560 fine.<\/p>\n
On Monday, April 20, police said two drivers were clocked travelling 173 km\/h and 161 km\/h in a 100 km\/h zone on Stoney Trail S.E. Both drivers received mandatory court summonses.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u201cSpeeding puts everyone on the road at risk,\u201d police said, adding officers continue to address dangerous driving behaviours through targeted enforcement.<\/p>\n
