New stal\u0315\u0259w\u0313as\u0259m bridge closed all weekend for paving work on Surrey-New West span<\/p>\n

The new Surrey-New Westminster crossing will be fully closed this weekend to give crews the time and space to complete \u201ctop lift paving works\u201d on the bridge deck.<\/p>\n

The stal\u0315\u0259w\u0313as\u0259m (Riverview) bridge will be shut down in both directions starting tonight (Friday) at 9 p.m. until Monday morning (April 27), says an advisory on the Pattullo Bridge replacement project website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Motorists wanting to cross Fraser River will have to use Port Mann or Alex Fraser bridges over the weekend, and buses will be rerouted over Queensborough and Alex Fraser bridges.<\/p>\n

Access to businesses along King George Boulevard in Surrey and businesses in downtown New Westminster will be maintained, project planners say.<\/p>\n

All four lanes of stal\u0315\u0259w\u0313as\u0259m bridge opened to traffic for the first time on Feb. 14, ending an era of travel on the old Pattullo Bridge<\/a>, now being deconstructed as part of a $1.6-billion bridge replacement project.<\/p>\n

The stal\u0315\u0259w\u0313as\u0259m bridge name was announced Dec. 8 in recognition of \u201cFirst Nations\u2019 deep historical and current connections to the area,\u201d according to B.C.\u2019s Ministry of Transportation and Transit.
