GENEVA \u2013 Canada\u2019s Colton and Kadriana Lott opened the world mixed doubles curling championship on a victorious note Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Canadian squad scored three in the first end en route to a 6-4 victory over South Korea in the first game of the tournament for both teams.<\/p>\n

\u201cUsually, a big event like this, you\u2019re nervous to start and nervous to see what the ice is going to do and feel like,\u201d Kadriana Lott said. \u201cIt was good to have a strong start.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do notice there are areas that we\u2019re going to work on, but now we feel more comfortable knowing what the ice is doing going into (Sunday).\u201d<\/p>\n

South Korea scored twice in the fifth to pull to within 5-3. But Kadriana Lott responded with a heavy hit to score a single and put Canada ahead 6-3.<\/p>\n

\u201cKadriana\u2019s shot in six was a very hard score,\u201d Colton Lott said. \u201cTo even get one point and not give up a steal was hard to do.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were not even half an inch from giving up a steal. She hit right where we needed to, and that just kept the ball rolling and didn\u2019t give them the momentum.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Lotts are among the most decorated mixed doubles curling teams in Canada. The couple from Gimli, Man., has won two gold, two silver and a bronze at the Canadian mixed doubles championships since 2019.<\/p>\n

Now their sights are set on earning Canada its first world mixed doubles championship. The Canadians resume tournament action Sunday, facing Finland and the United States.<\/p>\n
