While a number of major transportation projects<\/a> are underway around the region, a new ranking has named Vancouver as one of the best cities in the world for getting around on your own two feet.<\/p>\n

British media company TimeOut just released its list of the world\u2019s most walkable cities in 2026, and Vancouver was the only Canadian spot to make the cut.<\/p>\n

The rankings were determined as part of TimeOut\u2019s 10th anniversary survey, with 24,000 respondents sharing the ease with which one can explore their city on foot.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no such thing as a perfect city, but you can bet hubs that boast brilliant spots to eat, admire art, dance and shop are all top-tier places to be,\u201d said Liv Kelly, travel writer for TimeOut. \u201cAnd if all those things fall within walking distance of each other? Well, that\u2019s even better.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlenty of places were commended for being particularly pedestrian-friendly\u2026 The ranking is based on the highest percentage of locals who rated their city\u2019s walkability \u2018good\u2019 or \u2018amazing\u2019 in our annual survey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vancouver came in 17th on the list of most walkable cities in the world, scoring 78 per cent.<\/p>\n

It came just ahead of Macau, China, and ranked just behind Taipei, Taiwan. The city with the highest walkability score was Seoul, South Korea, with 93 per cent.<\/p>\n

TimeOut also recently released its 50 best cities in the world list<\/a>, and Vancouver was the only Canadian spot to make the grade.<\/p>\n

In terms of why folks should visit now, TimeOut points to the fact that Vancouver is getting its own TimeOut Market very soon and FIFA<\/a> is rolling into town this summer.<\/p>\n

Those who enjoy strolling around the city will want to make plans to visit downtown Vancouver\u2019s historic Gastown district, when, for the third consecutive year, a pedestrian zone will return to Water Street<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Car Free Day<\/a>, one of Vancouver\u2019s most popular summer events, is also officially back on for 2026.<\/p>\n

Organizers said that the festival footprint will be shared in the near future. However, previous events saw thousands of attendees enjoy entertainment, food vendors and community booths, kids\u2019 activities, and more on the roadways.<\/p>\n

A Canadian music icon also shouted out Vancouver\u2019s seawall<\/a> as one of the best city walks one can do.<\/p>\n
