Diego Pavia is still hoping to have a long NFL career ahead of him.<\/p>\n

But after going undrafted, the Vanderbilt QB and Heisman finalist has an alternate path in Canada if he wants it.<\/p>\n

In the Canadian Football League, teams often acquire negotiation rights to players who aren’t yet in the CFL. Whichever team holds a player’s negotiating rights is the one that has the first chance to sign him if he decides to come to Canada and play.<\/p>\n

Pavia’s negotiating rights are already held in the CFL — by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.<\/p>\n

This doesn’t mean anything about Pavia’s actual decision-making. He likely will do whatever he can to make it work in the NFL.<\/p>\n

But for those Pavia fans who are wondering what his alternate paths might look like, this is relevant.<\/p>\n

If he chose to take a chance on a different league, the CFL and UFL would likely be his two options. And if he chose Canada, Winnipeg seemingly would take a crack at adding him.<\/p>\n

The CFL wouldn’t be a career-ruining move for Pavia. If he stood out there, he could potentially come to the NFL — something that Doug Flutie did.<\/p>\n

It also wouldn’t be awful for Pavia to go to Canada and stay there as a strong performer.<\/p>\n

The reality is that Pavia probably isn’t going to the CFL. But if he did, it’d seemingly be to Winnipeg.<\/p>\n
