Relegation-threatened Ian Poulter described his final round performance at LIV Golf Chicago<\/a> as ‘a load of s—‘.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Englishman entered the penultimate event of the breakaway tour’s regular season in the relegation zone.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rounds of 74-71-70 saw the former European Ryder Cup star finish in a tie for 39th at Bolingbrook Golf Club and fail to move up in the individual standings.<\/p>\n

“Over and out,” Poulter<\/a> wrote on his Instagram stories, adding: “Seven birdies today but a load of s— as well for a -1 70.”<\/p>\n

South Africa’s Dean Burmester drained a clutch birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff on Sunday to defeat Jon Rahm and Josele Ballester to claim his second ever LIV title.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As for Poulter, he will now need to huge result this week in Indianapolis if he is to continue his career with LIV Golf.\u00a0<\/p>\n

LIV Golf confirmed a few weeks ago they were removing a controversial<\/a> rule that allowed captains to be exempt from relegation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Those who finish outside the top 48 in the individual standings will be booted from the league.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The change is thought to be part of the PIF-backed breakaway’s renewed bid for Official World Golf Ranking<\/a> recognition.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Chiefs at the governing body previously revealed concerns about a lack of meritocracy as a key reason why they initially rejected LIV’s application.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Other names at risk<\/p>\n

Poulter isn’t the only big name in danger of being relegated<\/p>\n

His Majesticks teammates and co-captains Henrik Stenson and Lee Westwood are also hovering precariously above the drop zone.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Westwood has teamed up<\/a> with his former caddie Billy Foster in a bid to arrest his slump in form.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Phil Mickelson<\/a>‘s teammates Brendan Steele and Andy Ogletree are also sweating the drop zone. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Ogletree played in the inaugural LIV Golf Invitational Series in 2022 and was relegated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He earned his spot back via the International Series’ order of merit but it looks like he’ll have to ply his trade elsewhere again unless he can find some magic.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Joaquin Niemann’s teammate Mito Pereira – whose final-hole meltdown cost him the 2022 PGA Championship – is also at risk.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Former PGA Tour<\/a> and Ryder Cup<\/a> star Anthony Kim appears doomed, having failed to register a single point all season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Frederik Kjettrup was signed by Martin Kaymer’s Cleeks for the 2025 season but has also endured a miserable campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n
