The nephew of Sep Vanmarcke<\/a>, Milan Bral, died on Saturday evening<\/a> after being struck by a car during a training ride earlier that afternoon. Vanmarcke took to social media to say goodbye in an emotional post.The accident happened in Ronse. At around 13:15, the rider from Anzegem was struck by a car at a junction. Brak was taken to intensive care immediately, but died at around 22:30. His team Dovy Keukens-FCC, responded to the devastating news on Facebook<\/a>. “With great sadness, we must say goodbye to our rider and teammate Milan Bral.”The news came just days after the cycling world was shocked by the death of former UAE Emeriates-XGR ride Cristian Camilo Mu\u00f1oz<\/a>. An out pouring of grief came from the pro peloton in the wake of the two deaths, with Nairo Quintana dedicating a stage win to Mu\u00f1oz, and Tadej Poga\u010dar wearing a black armband at Li\u00e8ge for the dearly departed Colombian rider.<\/p>\n

Bral came from a genuine cycling family and, like his uncles Sep and Ken Vanmarcke, had a talent for the Classics. Earlier this spring he raced the Mur de Huy Classic, the under-23 equivalent of La Fl\u00e8che Wallonne. His younger brother Xibe (18) is also a cyclist. Milan had reportedly been on his way to the GP Dries Devenyns, where Xibe was competing.<\/p>\n

Sep Vanmarcke<\/a> shared an emotional tribute to his nephew on social media. “I don’t know where to begin, where to end. I don’t want it to end. But here we are,” the Belgian wrote. “Yesterday morning, before your final training ride, you came to see us.”<\/p>\n

Bral visited his uncle Sep often \u2014 including on the day he died. “So much comes over me\u2026 If only I’d kept you a bit longer. A minute would have been enough. Then maybe you’d have reached that junction just a little later. Maybe that car would already have passed.”<\/p>\n

“If only I’d gone riding with you more, and come to watch more of your races. ‘Too busy’ \u2014 but now I wish I’d had that extra time with you.” Vanmarcke’s words are full of love for Milan, and he promises to look after his family. “I am so proud of you, Milan. I’m grateful I got to know you for 21 years. I love you. I will never forget you.”<\/p>\n
