A 3-3 game seemingly headed for an enjoyable, if unpredictable, overtime took the latter adjective to the extreme when Ryan Poehling\u2019s game-winning goal was allowed to stand.<\/p>\n
Poehling\u2019s shot from the bottom of the faceoff circle trickled through Oilers goalie Tristan Jarry\u2019s pads but was not signaled a goal on the ice by any of the game\u2019s four officials.<\/p>\n
A conversation between the four zebras \u2013 potentially aided by the home fans\u2019 reaction to an in-house replay? \u2013 led to a ruling of a good goal, despite none of the officials being in position to see whether the puck had crossed the line.<\/p>\n
The NHL\u2019s video review department then confirmed the officials\u2019 decision, giving the Ducks a 3-1 series lead and drawing the muted criticism of third-year Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch.<\/p>\n
\u201cI guess the goal call on the ice was probably about 60-90 seconds after, or maybe even more,\u201d Knoblauch, who hails from Imperial, Sask., told reporters after the game. \u201cThey huddled and they got to centre ice and then they made the call that it was a good goal so, I don\u2019t know, it wasn\u2019t very definitive.\u201d<\/p>\n
