Data from the City of Brampton shows that residents are increasingly using E-scooters as part of their regular transportation routines.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, the city launched the fourth season of its shared E-scooter pilot program, part of a broader effort to provide residents and visitors with a sustainable way to get around while reducing car use, easing congestion, and supporting local tourism.<\/p>\n
One notable trend is that many riders are using E-scooters to connect with public transit.<\/p>\n
\u201cTrip data and user surveys show that up to 40 per cent of riders use e-scooters to connect to public transit, helping to close that first- and last-mile gap between homes, schools, workplaces, and Brampton\u2019s main transit lines,\u201d the city said.<\/p>\n
E-scooter trips are concentrated along key corridors and near major transit hubs, including the Downtown Terminal, Bramalea GO, Mount Pleasant GO, and Gateway Terminal. This pattern has led operators to deploy more scooters along busy bus routes and near stops where riders need them most.<\/p>\n
This year, the city has also introduced a citywide designated parking model to reduce sidewalk obstructions, improve accessibility, and enhance safety for all road users. Riders must now start and end their trips in designated parking areas shown in each operator\u2019s app.<\/p>\n
E-scooters can be used on roads with speed limits of 50 km\/h or less, as well as on bike lanes and multi-use paths, but they are not permitted on sidewalks. The devices are limited to a maximum speed of 20 km\/h, with speeds reduced to 15 km\/h in high-pedestrian areas.<\/p>\n
Since its launch, the program has reached several notable milestones:<\/p>\n
Approximately 440,000 trips
\nApproximately 200,000 users
\n900 e-scooters deployed daily
\nMore than 1,000,000 kilometres travelled
\nEstimated CO\u2082 savings of around 30 tonnes (CO\u2082 equivalent)<\/p>\n
Although the program remains in the pilot stage, the data collected will help the city determine whether a long-term E-scooter program is warranted.<\/p>\n
