The Portuguese rider is still suffering from an illness first addressed after finishing an unremarkable 38th overall at the Volta a Catalunya, and admitting to not feeling good on the bike.<\/p>\n<p>Almeida said on social media, \u2018Sickness in the past months has affected my preparations too much and has meant I just won\u2019t quite be ready in time which is a shame as it\u2019s a race I love so much.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018After talking it through with the team we decided it was best to take a rest period and switch focus to new goals later in the season. We haven\u2019t set out those new goals yet but that will be done calmly in the next few weeks\u2026 For now it\u2019s time to first rest-up a bit and build things back up slowly.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclist.co.uk\/in-depth\/giro-ditalia-watch-live-stages-route-riders-teams-start-list\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2026 Giro d\u2019Italia <\/a>begins on 8th May in Bulgaria with Jonas Vingegaard aiming to win his first maglia rosa and complete his Grand Tour set.<\/p>\n<p>Tadej Poga\u010dar solos to third consecutive Li\u00e8ge-Bastogne-Li\u00e8ge victory<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"970\" height=\"647\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2273221311-970x647.webp.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-251900\"  \/>Dario Belingheri\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Tadej Poga\u010dar broke free with 13km to go to win his fourth Li\u00e8ge-Bastogne-Li\u00e8ge after Paul Seixas provided his toughest competition in years. 19-year-old Seixas crested the C\u00f4te de la Redoute alongside the World Champion, who had dispatched the field in 2024 and 2025 on that climb. Seixas held on until the last challenge of C\u00f4te de la Roche-aux-Faucons before Poga\u010dar put in one final dig 500m from the top to escape for glory.<\/p>\n<p>He dedicated the victory to former teammate Cristian Camilo Mu\u00f1oz, who died aged 30 following a knee infection after a crash at the Tour du Jura in France.<\/p>\n<p>Seixas crossed the line 45 seconds down, and Remco Evenepoel \u2013 who helped light up the race, getting in the early 52-man breakaway \u2013 finished in third over a minute and a half back. <\/p>\n<p>Demi Vollering also goes it alone<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"970\" height=\"647\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2273232564-970x647.webp.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-251901\"  \/>Luc Claessen\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Demi Vollering made it two wins in one week, following up La Fl\u00e8che Wallonne success with victory at Li\u00e8ge-Bastogne-Li\u00e8ge. She launched a solo attack on the C\u00f4te de la Redoute for her third La Doyenne title, leaving Puck Pieterse, Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney and Anna van der Breggen to fight it out for the last two podium spots. <\/p>\n<p>Pieterse and Niewiadoma-Phinney\u2019s sprints had the edge over two-time winner Van der Breggen to take second and third respectively. It concluded a spectacular month of racing for Pieterse who finished third at the Tour of Flanders then second at La Fl\u00e8che Wallonne and Li\u00e8ge-Bastogne-Li\u00e8ge. Niewiadoma-Phinney had a stellar Ardennes week after recovering from a brutal crash at Milan-San Remo with a second place at the Amstel Gold Race, fourth at La Fl\u00e8che Wallonne while stuck in the big ring and third at Li\u00e8ge.<\/p>\n<p>Milan Bral dies after being hit by car<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1440\" height=\"1440\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/547a5803-498f-4202-8d87-65087f3b2667.webp.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-251903\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Belgian cyclist Milan Bral has died after being hit by a car. The 21-year-old \u2013\u00a0who is the nephew of former pro Sep Vanmarcke \u2013 was out riding on his way to watch younger brother Xibe race at the GP Dries Devenyns in Zulzeke when he was hit. He was transported to hospital where he died from his injuries.<\/p>\n<p>His team Dovy Keukens-FCC released a statement saying, \u2018Milan was more than a rider \u2013 [he was] a wonderful person and a valued team-mate. He will be greatly missed and will forever remain part of our team.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Giulio Pellizzari wins Tour of the Alps<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/HGvjDHeWkAIlcAk.webp.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-251904\"  \/>Sprint Cycling<\/p>\n<p>Red Bull Bora-Hansgrohe\u2019s Giulio Pellizzari has stepped things up this season with podiums in both the Volta a Comunitat Valenciana and Tirreno-Adriatico, and now he has taken his first stage race victory at the Tour of the Alps..<\/p>\n<p>Pellizzari won a mountainous Stage 2 to jump into the race lead, and cemented it with victory on similar terrain on Stage 5. He was joined on the final podium by two Ineos Grenadiers riders in Egan Bernal and Thymen Arensman, who finished 40 seconds and 50 seconds back respectively.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a good sign for Pellizzari heading into the Giro where looks set to take leadership of the team and attempt to improve on his sixth place in 2025. With contenders currently dropping like flies, a Grand Tour podium could well be on the cards for the Italian.<\/p>\n<p>Ineos Grenadiers partners with Caf\u00e9 de Colombia<\/p>\n<p>Caf\u00e9 de Colombia is Ineos Grenadiers\u2019 new \u2018official coffee partner\u2019. <\/p>\n<p>The flagship brand of the Federaci\u00f3n Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia (Colombian Coffee Growers Federation) sponsored the iconic pro team in the 1980s, which was home to riders such as Lucho Herrera, who won the Alpe d\u2019Huez stage at the 1984 Tour de France.<\/p>\n<p>With Egan Bernal&#8217;s Colombian National Champion&#8217;s jersey inspired by the Caf\u00e9 de Colombia team kit, an official partnership should be no surprise. <\/p>\n<p>The new comes ahead of a big week for the Ineos Grenadiers, with<a href=\"https:\/\/dnlbenson.substack.com\/p\/ineos-grenadiers-to-announce-major\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow nofollow\"> Daniel Benson reporting<\/a> the team will announce Netcompany as its new sponsor on 28th April. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Welcome back to another edition of\u00a0Pro Log.
