But Burnley have struggled on their return and last Wednesday\u2019s 1-0 home defeat by Manchester City <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/football\/2026\/apr\/22\/burnley-manchester-city-premier-league-match-report\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">confirmed an immediate return<\/a> to the second tier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Parker was noncommittal \u00adregarding his future last week. \u201cThis season has been a huge challenge for us,\u201d he said. \u201cDiscussions about what we need to do as a football club will take place in due course.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">If Parker leaves, Steven Gerrard may be of interest to Pace. The former Rangers, Aston Villa manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/football\/2025\/jan\/30\/steven-gerrard-focuses-on-positives-after-leaving-saudi-arabia-al-ettifaq\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">left Al-Ettifaq<\/a> by mutual consent in January 2025.
