Ryan Whitney was in disbelief after a controversial overtime goal<\/a> saw the Edmonton Oilers fall to the Anaheim Ducks in Game 4.<\/p>\n

The former NHL defenceman, who suited up with both the Oilers and Ducks during his playing career, has made it abundantly clear in recent years that he is rooting for Connor McDavid and company to win the Stanley Cup. The Spittin\u2019 Chiclets co-host puts his fandom on display with regularity.<\/p>\n

Whitney was one of many who felt the Oilers got the short end of the stick last night on an overtime winner from Ryan Poehling. The Ducks forward was ruled to have squeaked the game-winner past the goal line, though reactions from hockey fans were mixed as to whether or not the puck was conclusively in.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is bulls*t,\u201d Whitney said in a video posted on X. \u201cThis is a scam! You do not see the puck across the line! Bullsh*t call! I don\u2019t know how it was called a goal on the ice. Nobody could see anything, and then the replay doesn\u2019t show the puck over the line all the way. I feel like I\u2019m taking crazy pills!<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a disgrace to the National Hockey League. All the calls I\u2019ve ever seen, this is the worst. The worst call I\u2019ve ever seen in an NHL playoff game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whitney wasn\u2019t done there, either. He fired off a series of posts which blasted the officials for calling it a goal on the ice despite appearing to be out of position.<\/p>\n

So these two guys got together and said what?
\u201cYou see anything?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNope i couldn\u2019t see shit\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMe neither. So no goal?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell the crowd is going nuts and Ryan Poehling said it was in so i think we say it\u2019s a goal\u201d<\/p>\n

While Whitney and plenty of other Oilers fans were infuriated originally, it did seem that as the night went on, they were all more accepting of the fact that the puck, while not conclusively over the goal line, was likely a good goal.<\/p>\n

\u201cOkay, I\u2019ve cooled off,\u201d Whitney said in a follow-up video. \u201cAny fan in my position of the team who lost would\u2019ve been saying the same thing. You get your guts ripped out in real time, crash outs happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can admit, I think the puck was in. I think the puck was in\u2026 It\u2019s been a long day. It\u2019s been a long year in Edmonton. They\u2019re in one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though many don\u2019t agree with how the call was made, it seems most, including Oilers fans, believe that Poehling\u2019s shot had indeed crossed the goal line.<\/p>\n

Regardless of which side of the fence you fall on, the Oilers\u2019 loss on Sunday night has them on the brink of playoff elimination. They\u2019ll look to keep their season alive and extend the series with a win in Game 5 on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
