What is that track like for your team? Like how, how are you guys competitive there?

   00:13 Speaker B

Um, it’s it’s very, very difficult to predict this year. And then uh we have a bit of a tweak on the regulation rules as well. And it’s a sprint weekend. We got hour and half of practice running. after that one we go straight into a qualifying session, sprint qualifying session. So it’s really about hitting the ground running. you know, after, let’s say one month of it’s not a break, but not going racing, but you got to be on it straight away to get the best out of the car, understanding the new changes on regulation. driver needs to get on top of it as well because hour and half, 90 minutes that will go very quickly.

   01:00 Speaker C

Yeah, you know, so the rules are really complex, new changes here which which we’ll get into, but you know, Haas is an American team,

   01:07 Speaker C

a smaller team but doing quite well sort of this year. How do you compete against these these bigger teams right with with the big budget like the Mercedes of the world, the Red Bulls, all the Ferraris even, right?

   01:21 Speaker B

Yeah, yeah, I mean, like we are still the smallest team, we are in our 11th year, but again, compared to those established teams, they’ve got 1,200 people, and then they’ve got many, many more years of a history and the process and procedure and methodology. But uh, for us, the message from day one is like, we are the smallest team. So if we need to work as a team, we need to be really closely knit integrated group of people, supporting each other, being inclusive. If we don’t do that, if we are not a team, we don’t stand a chance. But I do believe that we are creating good culture and we are slowly improving as a team, you know keeping the focus on the efficiency.

   02:10 Speaker A

I I’m curious for for those maybe who aren’t as familiar with the sport, you’ve been in it for so long. like are there common reasons that determine success in F1? Like, do you think it comes down to like, is it is it money? Is it engineering? Is it strategy? Is it is it all three?

   02:35 Speaker B

It’s everything you said. and the rest of it. You know, money for me in Formula One is a necessity to succeed, but for sure, money doesn’t guarantee you success. right? If you look at the amount of money we’re spending, even though it’s under the same budget cap, we still spending less than our competitors. And if money was everything, you know, we don’t have any place to be in the P4 right at this minute. We should be right at the back, right? So money is definitely a necessity, but, you know, money doesn’t guarantee you success at all. It’s about it’s a teamwork, and then strategy as well, and then the culture.

   03:22 Speaker C

So I know this year, you know, a lot of rules changes, right? in 2026. new car, new engine, all these different uh software tweaks. But the new rules changes benefited you this so far this year. The team’s doing quite well. Why do you how do you explain what’s going on here? Do you think that the new rules are are are in place to help the kind of even the playing field?

   03:49 Speaker B

Absolutely not. No, no, no, no, no. Seriously, I I think if there’s a reason that we are performing very very so far, I mean to be fair, we’ve only done three races, right? It’s very early early doors, is that we really focused on the basics. and then the fact that we are such a small team, we got lots of constraint, really forces us to think about really what is the core thing we need to get done, we need to prepare to get to the next step because we still lacking with some hardware, some process to understand the new car, new regulations, right? So for instance, just as an example, pre-season testing, we had nine days of testing, Barcelona three days, six days in Bahrain. For me, there’s no not a option not to run the day one of the Barcelona shakedown be reliably running all day because every time we send the car out every lap, we are as a team is running a lot about the new car, new regulation, the drivers, they’re getting experienced every single lap. That’s a closed loop feedback. And then, you know, we done 154 laps on day one on Barcelona shakedown. And some people didn’t make it to Barcelona shakedown test at all, right? Some people turned up on the final day. But for us as a smallest team, and with some restrictions, for me, we had to get there, day one, running reliably. Then we can learn. Then by the end of the Bahrain final day, we understood this year’s car pretty well, and then drivers gain lots of knowledge as well. So I felt like going to Melbourne, we are as best prepared as we could be. And then I said, look, you know, first few races, there’ll be lots of jeopardy, you know, lots of DNFs or not even maybe not starting, which is exactly what happened in China with two McLarens and two other cars. We got to be there, right? So I feel we’ve done that. That’s why I think we are sitting where we are. But from now on, from this weekend Miami Grand Prix, I feel the challenges are very different. Now we got the initial part of the year done, right? So now it’s a development, fair development war. So it’s how quickly can you make the your car go faster and then that’s a huge challenge for a small team like us too.

00:00 Speaker A start here with that Miami Grand Prix, um, just a few days away.
