Breaking down rookie contract for Ty Simpson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The most questionable decision of the 2026 NFL draft was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/ca\/nfl\/los-angeles-rams\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles Rams<\/a>&#8216; selection of Ty Simpson in the first round.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s tough to say that this was the right or wrong move at the moment, as we don&#8217;t know how Simpson will look in the future, but the reality is that the Rams needed more help in other parts of their roster, and selecting Simpson doesn&#8217;t necessarily help them get closer to winning a Super Bowl right now.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;ll be interesting to see what the plan for Matthew Stafford is in the long term, though the expectation is that he&#8217;ll continue to play for as long as he wants.<\/p>\n<p>Simpson, in the meantime, will be paid $25.4 million over his rookie contract, which spans more than four years, per Spotrac.<\/p>\n<p>One of the benefits of selecting Simpson now is that he gets to learn from Stafford.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It probably would have been a better idea to select a player of need, but the Rams are hopeful they have found their future quarterback, and Simpson is very excited to get to play next to a guy like Stafford, who has already reached the top of the NFL world multiple times.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m super ecstatic, because I just want to pick his brain about everything, soak up all that knowledge,&#8221; Simpson said. &#8220;That dude, how he goes about things is super, super awesome.
